整体设计思路

This reading article is about resolutions which are familiar to the Ss from Grade 8 who have learned English for several years and still have a strong desire to learn better. At the beginning of this class, T will arouse Ss’ interest to come up with some questions about resolutions based on their daily life. Then with several reading tasks, T will guide Ss to explore the reason why resolutions are difficult to keep. This is to help them to understand some shortage of their resolutions and their own shortcomings. By the end of this class, Ss will be able to make resolutions and keep them.

教学目标

By the end of this class, Ss will be able to:

1. choose the appropriate sentence according to the context;

2. explore the reason why resolutions are difficult to keep and get over them;

3. learn how to summarize with a mind map.

教学重难点

1. Improve Ss’ ability of language generalization with the help of the mind map;

2. Guide Ss to analyze the reason why resolutions are difficult to keep and lead Ss to make appropriate resolutions.

Leading in

Greetings with Ss and lead in the topic.

Listen to the experience which is shared by the teacher.

By listening to other’s story, Ss can be in a relaxing setting.

Pre-reading

Have Ss talk about their resolutions which they made last year.

Brainstorm some facts they’ve experienced about resolutions and share them.

By talking about the familiar topic, Ss can integrate into the class actively.

While-reading

1st reading:

Have Ss match the paragraph with its main purpose and find the topic sentences.

1. Read quickly, underline the sentences they need.

2. Match the paragraph with its main purpose.

These help Ss to have a clear mind of the passage and understand the importance of topic sentences.

2nd reading:

Have Ss choose the appropriate sentence to fill in the blanks in the passage and focus on the context.

1. Read carefully, underline the words and phrases they need.

2. Fill in the blanks.

These help Ss to focus on the details of the passage and cultivate their inference ability.

3rd reading:

1. Elicit Ss to find out the meaning of resolutions and some details.

2. Elicit Ss to find out the kinds of resolutions to finish the mind map.

3. Elicit Ss to discuss the reasons why resolutions are difficult to keep.

1. Read the first paragraph carefully and answer 4 questions.

2. Read the second paragraph carefully and find out different kinds of resolutions.

3. Read the second paragraph carefully and discuss the reasons why resolutions are difficult to keep.

These help Ss to understand further the passage and expand their mind.

Post-reading

Have Ss discuss their thoughts about whether the best resolution is to have no resolutions.

Declare their opinions and share them.

This helps to cultivate Ss’ critical thinking skills and the establishment of emotional education.

Summary

Have Ss summarize with a mind map in groups.

Work in groups to summarize the passage.

This helps to cultivate Ss’ practice ability and the ability of knowledge integration.

Homework

Write down your resolution and list your difficulties about keeping it.

 

This based on the class, Ss can consolidate knowledge that they have learned.

教学反思

Ss are interested in making resolutions but it is difficult for them to keep. How to design teaching procedures to elicit Ss to learn to face difficulties bravely and lead Ss to make appropriate resolutions is the point that I need to think about.
