整体设计思路

This reading article is about students's free time activities, a familiar topic to the Ss from Grade 8 who have learned English for several years and have a strong desires to learn better.  At the beginning of this class, T will organize a game to arouse Ss' interest.  Then with several reading tasks, Ss will get the main idea of the text and find out some details.  This will develop Ss' reading ability. By the end of the class, Ss will be able to retell the passage and do a survey.

 

教学目标

By the end of this class, Ss will be able to:

1. get the main idea and obtain information about the frequency of Ss' free time activities

2. Master new language points

3. arrange their own after-school life reasonably and develop healthy living habits

4. improve their reading strategies

 

教学重难点

1. Improve Ss' ability of scanning

2. Guide Ss to summarize the information

3.  Develop a healthy lifestyle

Divide students into

groups of five

Get ready for the class

Prepare for the group work

 

Warming up

1. Greeting with Ss

2. Play the game: That's me. T will say some sentences, if it's true for you, hands up and say "that's me"

Participate the game.

Arouse Ss' interest and recall adverbs of frequency.

a. I play smartphone everyday.

b. I exercise at least twice a week.

c. I sometimes go to the cinema on weekends.

 

Pre-reading

Guide Ss to talk about their free time activities and the frequency in a group.

Free talk

Prepare for the text and promote the understanding among the group members

 

While-reading

1st reading

1. Elicit Ss to find out the gist

2. Divide the text into 3 paragraph

1. Read quickly, find out the gist

2. Read the whole passage and divide the text with"//"

Improve Ss' skimming ability

 

While-reading

2nd reading:

1. Read para. 1 and answer the questions

2. Read para. 2-4, and complete the pie charts

3. Read para. 5, and then answer the question.

Read carefully and finish these tasks

Make Ss have a clear mind to the text and improve the Ss' ability of scanning

Qs:  What did we ask the students about?

What were our questions about?

What's the best way to relax, why?

 

While-reading

3rd reading

Read in details and underline the words you have questions

Read in details and underline some language points

accumulate some useful phrases and expressions.

 

Post-reading

Work in group1. retell the text with the support of the pie chart

2. ask the Ss to discuss whether they support the author's point of view

Retell the text and discuss with group members

Ss will know the function of the chart and practice Ss' speaking ability.

Elicit Ss develop a healthy lifestyle.

 

Homework

Choose three activities to do a survey, you should write down number of people and their freqency, then turn into pie chart

 

Ss will master how to do a survey and how to use chart.
